90th Anniversary Open Day & Memorial Unveiling
Newquay Dramatic Society (NDS) are holding an open day and an unveiling of a memorial to Eileen Pollard on Sat 8 October to celebrate the 90th anniversary of staging our very first play in 1932 – ‘Nothing but the truth’ – a light comedy written by James Montgomery – directed by Mr E A Pope.
NDC has put on plays for almost every year since to the present day using the Cosy Nook theatre in the 1960’s and 1970’s before moving to Lane Theatre in what was Lane Village Hall in 1980.
Eileen was an artistic director for many years with NDS and was the person who discovered and subsequently fundraised to enable the society to purchase the former village hall in 1980 and fit it out with some small extensions to open in 1981.
Further improvements took place in 2000 with a millennium lottery grant that enabled an extension to be built that houses the dressing rooms, toilets, green room and bar.
The plaque is a memorial slate to recognise the huge effect that Eileen’s presence had and continues to this day.
